Sponge Filters are a great addition to any tank. Use as the only filtration or as backups instead of air stones.  Just pull a sponge or the entire filter and can quickly have a new tank ready for fish!  Plus have the added peace of mind knowing that if the main filtration should fail for any reason, the sponge filter will keep running so long as there is electricity to keep the air pump going and avoid a total crash.

Double Sponge Filters ensure a healthy bacterial colony as one sponge can be cleaned at a time. These filters are great in fry tanks as they protect the fry from becoming trapped and are excellent in adult or breeding tanks as well.  Also perfect for shrimp tanks as the tiny shrimp will be protected from the filtration and as the water flow is often more gentle than other forms of filtration.
