Our Freeze Dried Mysis Shrimp deliver an outstanding 75% protein content, making them one of the most nutritionally dense freeze dried treats available for aquarium fish. Also known as Opossum Shrimp due to the way females carry their young in a brood pouch, Mysis shrimp are a naturally occurring planktonic crustacean found in both freshwater and marine environments. Wild caught and freeze dried whole to preserve their natural nutritional profile, these shrimp are increasingly preferred over brine shrimp by serious hobbyists and breeders for their superior fatty acid content and higher overall nutritional value.

Why Mysis Over Brine Shrimp? While brine shrimp are a widely used treat, Mysis shrimp offer significantly more nutrition. Their exceptional fatty acid profile including highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs) supports immune function, energy metabolism, and vibrant natural coloration. Whole Shrimp and Siftings Available as whole individual freeze dried shrimp and as Siftings when available. Siftings are the smaller pieces and fine particles left behind during packaging, perfect for nano fish, fry, and smaller species that may struggle with a full sized shrimp. Siftings are available in limited quantities so check back periodically.

How to Feed Always rehydrate Mysis shrimp in a small amount of tank water for a few minutes before feeding to avoid digestive issues and improve palatability. For an added health boost try soaking in a small amount of garlic juice before feeding. Feed only what can be consumed within a few minutes and remove any uneaten portions promptly to maintain water quality. Use as a treat alongside a balanced staple diet rather than as a primary food source.
