Understanding the Smokey Related Phenotypes The Smokey gene produces three distinct but related phenotypes depending on gene combinations:

Smokey: Carries one copy of the Smokey gene (Sm/+), producing partial smokey pattern coverage over the body.

Chocolate: Carries two copies of the Smokey gene (Sm/Sm), resulting in significantly more pattern coverage compared to the Smokey.

Leopard: The interaction between the Smokey and Zebra genes creates a unique and complex body and fin pattern unlike either gene alone. Occasional Leopard phenotype fish may appear within this listing as a result of the underlying genetics. Consider it a welcome surprise if you receive one!

Genetics Smokey Angelfish are expressed genetically as Sm/+, carrying one copy of the Smokey gene. The single dose produces the characteristic partial body coverage that distinguishes them from the more heavily patterned Chocolate.
