The Perfect Introduction to Natural Carbon Bio-Media
AquaChar Starter Pack is the ideal way to experience the difference that natural carbon bio-media makes in your aquarium. Treating up to 50 gallons, this starter pack is perfectly sized for nano tanks, smaller freshwater setups, and saltwater aquariums where water clarity and biological balance are a priority. Each pack includes 1 cup (237ml) of AquaChar conveniently pre-packaged in a ready to use nylon bag, making setup as simple as rinsing and placing in your filter.
How AquaChar Works Unlike traditional fossil fuel based activated carbon, AquaChar is made from wood burned at extremely high temperatures, preserving the natural carbon skeleton and creating a product with massive surface area, natural porosity, and a negative ionic charge that magnetically attracts dissolved organics from the water column. The result is crystal clear water, biological balance, and long term stability that standard carbon simply cannot match.
As beneficial bacteria colonize the enormous internal surface area, AquaChar transitions into a powerful biological filtration media that actively breaks down waste and helps stabilize ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Many customers report needing to clean their glass less frequently and noticing their fish appear more vibrant and active.
Long Term Use and Maintenance AquaChar is designed for the lifespan of your aquarium, not as a disposable consumable. Add new AquaChar to the existing media every 3 to 6 months as needed to maintain clarity and boost biological balance. Perform monthly maintenance by shaking AquaChar in cycled tank water to remove larger organics and free unused porosity. To fully regenerate, rinse, soak in a hydrogen peroxide and water mix for 24 hours, then air dry before returning to the filter.
pH Buffering AquaChar naturally buffers pH, gradually increasing it over the first 2 to 4 weeks until stability is reached. Most freshwater aquariums settle between 7.5 and 7.8, while saltwater systems typically stabilize between 8.0 and 8.4. Aquariums with buffered substrates or certain rock types will see minimal impact.
How to Use Rinse the included nylon bag of AquaChar thoroughly before placing in your filter. Use low to moderate flow, slow enough to allow interaction with the water but fast enough to push larger organics through. AquaChar may initially float but will sink as it fills with organics and beneficial bacteria.
Safe for the Whole Tank AquaChar is a completely natural product with no chemicals or synthetic additives. Safe for use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums and completely safe for plants and invertebrates.
