Guava Leaves, Pack of 20

A versatile botanical that does more than add tannins. Natural antibacterial compounds help prevent Vibrio and other bacterial conditions common in shrimp tanks, while slow decomposition creates a long lasting biofilm surface that shrimp, fry, and snails actively graze on. Smaller size makes these ideal for nano tanks and smaller setups without breaking.

Description

Nature’s Compact Botanical for Blackwater Aquariums, Shrimp Tanks, and Leaf Litter Setups

Sourced from Borneo, organic leaves are naturally dried to preserve their beneficial properties, these compact guava leaves are well suited for smaller tanks and nano setups where larger leaves would be too bulky. They release tannins and humic substances that replicate the natural blackwater conditions found in the tropical rivers and streams where many popular aquarium species originate. Suitable for freshwater aquariums of all types including dedicated blackwater biotopes, shrimp tanks, betta setups, nano tanks, breeding tanks, and general community aquariums.

The Benefits of Guava Leaves

Blackwater Conditioning: As the leaves decompose they gradually release tannins and humic substances that soften water, gently lower pH, and replicate the natural conditions many tropical species have evolved in. Their lighter tannin release compared to catappa leaves produces a more subtle amber tint, making them a good choice for hobbyists who prefer less water discoloration.

Antibacterial Properties: Natural polyphenols, flavonoids, and tannins contribute mild antibacterial properties including prevention of Vibrio bacteria, a common cause of disease in shrimp tanks.

Biofilm and Foraging: As the leaves slowly decompose they develop a rich biofilm surface that shrimp, snails, fry, and small fish actively graze on, replicating natural foraging behavior and providing a valuable supplemental food source.

Spawning Support: Natural carotenoids in guava leaves may support spawning health in breeding setups, and the tannin rich environment encourages natural breeding behavior in many species.

How to Use Steep in boiling water for a few minutes before adding to the tank to help them sink and soften more quickly. Add directly to the aquarium as part of a leaf litter bed or mix with Indian Almond Leaves and other botanicals from our collection for a varied and natural environment.

Storage Store in a cool dry location away from moisture in a sealed container or bag.
