Not Just for Reptiles — Your Fish Will Love It Too
Repashy Grasshopper Pie carries a reptile label, but the truth is that grasshoppers are a natural and eagerly consumed food source for a huge range of freshwater fish as well. In the wild, insects that fall onto the water surface are immediately targeted by surface and mid water feeding fish, and grasshoppers are among the most instinctively recognized prey items for many species. With 75% grasshopper meal and 45% protein, this is a genuinely high protein insectivore formula that delivers the kind of nutrition insect eating species thrive on, regardless of whether they live on land or in water.
Who Are They For? Grasshopper Pie is an excellent choice across multiple animal groups. For reptile and amphibian keepers it is ideal for bearded dragons, skinks, dwarf monitors, salamanders, aquatic turtles, and any other insectivorous or omnivorous species. For aquarium hobbyists, any fish that naturally consumes insects as part of its diet will respond enthusiastically to this food, including livebearers, bettas, killifish, rainbowfish, gouramis, surface feeding tetras, axolotls, and aquatic frogs. If you keep both fish and reptiles this is one formula that genuinely serves the entire household.
The Benefits of Grasshopper Based Nutrition Grasshoppers are one of the most nutritionally complete insect species available as a food source, rich in protein, essential amino acids, and fatty acids. The chitin in the grasshopper exoskeleton also acts as a natural prebiotic, promoting beneficial gut bacteria and supporting healthy digestion in both fish and reptiles. At 75% insect content this formula delivers a level of insect nutrition that few competing products can match.
Two Ways to Serve
As a Gel: The standard preparation method. Mix powder with water, allow to set, then cut into cubes, shred, or serve as a whole slab. Treat the finished gel as fresh food and store sealed in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or in the freezer for up to six months.
As a Jerky: Prepare the gel as normal, pour into a deep container, slice into quarter inch thick pieces, and dry completely in an oven or dehydrator at 150 degrees F for 8 to 12 hours.
How to Prepare the Gel Ratio is one part powder to three parts water, using 1/4 cup powder to between 1/2 and 3/4 cup water as a starting point. Adjust water quantity to achieve your preferred firmness.
Microwave method: Measure water into a heat safe container. Heat until water begins to boil. Add powder and mix well. Let sit at room temperature until gelled, approximately 2 hours.
Stovetop method: Bring water to a boil in a pot. Remove from heat. Add powder and mix well. Immediately pour into a storage container or mold and let sit at room temperature until firm.
Storage Store unused powder at room temperature in a cool dry location away from moisture. Refrigerate any prepared gel and use within two weeks, or freeze for up to six months.
