Description
The Bold Black and White Expression of the Koi Genome
Panda Angelfish share the same genetics as their Koi relatives but express little to no orange coloring, resulting in a striking clean black and white marbled pattern that stands apart from every other variety in the hobby. Where Koi and Red Devil angels are prized for their orange coverage, the Panda is valued for its absence, producing a bold graphic contrast that makes a strong visual statement in any aquarium. Often considered a low coverage Koi and sometimes culled by breeders focused on orange development, the Panda has earned a dedicated following among hobbyists who appreciate a different kind of beauty.
Understanding the Koi Range All three Koi coverage types share the same genetics but express different ranges of orange coloring. Panda Koi display little to no orange coverage. Deluxe Tri-Color Koi fall in the middle range with 25 to 75% orange coverage. High Coverage or Red Devil Koi display close to 100% orange coverage. Breeding Pandas together can produce offspring across all three coverage types.
Genetics Panda Angelfish carry the Gold Marble gene alongside a double dose of the Stripeless gene, expressed genetically as Gm/g S/S or Gm/Gm S/S, identical to other Koi type angelfish. The low orange expression is a result of natural variation rather than a separate gene.
Fin Types Available in both Standard and Veil fin types when in stock.
